The procedure for wukuf in Arafat - Wukuf is one of the highlights of the Hajj pilgrimage. If a pilgrim does not perform wukuf then his hajj is said to be invalid.
Wukuf can be interpreted as silence in Arafat, either standing or sitting. Pilgrims who perform wukuf are not only silent in Padang Arafah, but are encouraged to multiply prayers, dhikr, tahlil and tadarus.
The time of wukuf is held on 9 Dhulhijjah until dawn breaks on 10 Dhulhijjah. What exactly is wukuf? How is the implementation of one of the highlights of this pilgrimage? Here are the procedures for wukuf in Arafat.
Definition of Wukuf
Wukuf is one of a series of Hajj activities. In Arabic, wukuf can be interpreted as "stop". Wukuf can be interpreted as one of the activities of the pilgrims to remain silent in the Arafat field.
In the implementation of wukuf, there are three important meanings contained, namely: Zawal, Wukuf and Arafat. Zawal is the movement from light to darkness, this is interpreted as the time of the wukuf.
Wukuf itself can be interpreted as a determination to cut off the ugliness of the heart, thoughts and actions. This is in accordance with the situation where pilgrims must worship in a state of purity. While Arafat is interpreted as a journey from the life of the world to the life of the hereafter.
Time of Wukuf
Wukuf in the Field of Arafat is held on the 9th of Dhulhijjah, performed when the sun begins to slip or midday (12 noon). The day of the event is called the Day of Arafat. The special thing about Arafat Day is that Allah SWT and the angels watch His servants gather in the Field of Arafat together.
Procedures for Wukuf in Arafat
The implementation of wukuf is often likened to the event of gathering humans later in the Mahshyar Field. This is matched with the moment when humanity is gathered in one place together after Judgment Day. Indirectly, this moment makes pilgrims reflect that life after death and the afterlife is close.
As the main pillar in a series of hajj pilgrimages, of course, wukuf also has rules or procedures that must be carried out when and before arriving at Padang Arafah.
The procedure for performing wukuf in Arafat is as follows:
Wukuf starts from the journey to Padang Arafah after sunrise on the 9th of Dhulhijjah. During the journey, pilgrims are encouraged to read talbiyah, tahlil and takbir as much as possible.
Then the pilgrims will stop at Namirah, or a hill outside the wukuf place.
After that the congregation will be directed to Padang Arafah, when the position of the sun has slipped.
Pilgrims who perform wukuf must stabilize their hearts as well as possible. Then it is recommended to read talbiyah while waiting for the next stages of wukuf.
Pilgrims perform Zuhr and Asr prayers in plural takdim, held in congregation.
After that, the congregation will listen to the Arafat sermon. Generally, the sermon will be related to the meaning of wukuf, recognizing Allah, the mandate of the Prophet, as well as about the wada sermon, and other religious sides that guide worshipers towards the stability of prayer and dhikrullah.
The last stage is dhikr, prayer, and reading the Qur'an.
Mistakes that often occur during wukuf
Humans sometimes do not escape from mistakes and forget, as well as when carrying out wukuf. There are some mistakes that are commonly found when wukuf occurs. These mistakes should be avoided so that the values and practices of wukuf are not reduced. The mistakes that usually occur are as follows:
