Tawaf is an act of worship that must be performed by Muslims when performing Hajj and Umrah. It is performed by circumambulating the Kaaba seven times starting and ending at the corner of Hajar Aswad.

Types of Tawaf

This tawaaf is done solely to gain Allah's pleasure, so this worship can be done at any time. Tawaf Sunnah can be done every time you have the opportunity to enter the Grand Mosque and is not followed by sa'i.
Tahiyyat Tawaaf
The Sunnah tawaaf that is usually done when entering the Grand Mosque is the tahiyat tawaaf. This is the tawaaf that is commonly done when entering the Grand Mosque.
Sunnah of Tawaf
When performing tawaaf, there are several sunnahs that can be done by Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, including:
Tawaf on foot.
Shortening the steps.
Walking fast or running a little on laps 1-3 and walking normally on lap 4.
Istilam to Hajar Aswad at the beginning of tawaf while saying "Allahu Akbar".
Istilam with the right hand.
Kissing Hajar Aswad and placing the forehead on it.
Performing Istilam at the pillar of Yamani.
Performing berittibak.
Two rak'ahs of voluntary prayer after tawaaf behind Maqam Ibrahim.
Perform tawaaf close to the Kaaba.
Procedure of Tawaf
Tawaf is performed by following the requirements of prayer, namely purification, intention to cover the aurat. In tawaaf there is no prohibition to communicate with other people.
During tawaaf, the left shoulder should be straight in the direction of the Qibla and should not look back. Tawaf is performed seven times counterclockwise, starting and ending at Hajar Aswad.
