Qur'anic Verses about Hajj and Their Meanings
According to the book Encyclopedia of Fiqh Hajj & Umrah (Revised Edition) there are 61 verses in the Qur'an regarding Hajj, some of which are:
1. Surah Al Hajj verse 27
Meaning: "And call the people to Hajj, and they will come to you on foot, and on the backs of lean camels, coming from all parts of the world."
2. Surah Al Hajj verse 29
Meaning: "Then let them remove their impurities, complete their vows and circumambulate the old house."
3. Surah Al-Imran verse 97
Meaning: "There are clear signs, (among them) the station of Ibrahim. Whoever enters it (the House of Allah) is safe. And (among) the obligations of man towards Allah is to make the pilgrimage to the House of Allah, for those who are able to travel there. And whoever denies the obligation of Hajj, then know that Allah is the richest of all worlds."
4. Surah Al-Baqarah verse 196
Meaning: "And complete the Hajj and 'Umrah for the sake of Allah. If you are besieged (by enemies or sickness), then slaughter a sacrifice that is easily available, and do not shave your heads before the sacrifice reaches the place of slaughter. If any of you is sick or has a problem with his head (and he shaves it), then he must make a compensatory sacrifice, viz: fasting or giving charity or making a sacrifice. When you are secure, then whoever wishes to perform 'Umrah before Hajj (during the month of Hajj), he must offer a sacrifice that is easily available. But if he does not find (a sacrifice or is unable to afford it), then it is obligatory to fast three days during the pilgrimage and seven days (more) when you return. These are the ten perfect days. Such is the case for those whose families are not in the vicinity of the Sacred Mosque (those who are not residents of Makkah). And fear Allah and know that Allah is very severe in punishment."
5. Surah Al-Baqarah verse 200
Meaning: "When you have completed the Hajj, then remember Allah, as you mentioned your fathers, and even more than that. So among the people there are those who pray, "O our Lord, grant us (good) in this world," and in the Hereafter he will not get any share."
6. Surah Al-Ma'idah verse 95
Meaning: "O you who believe! Do not kill game while you are in ihram (Hajj or Umrah). If any one of you kills it intentionally, then the penalty is to substitute for it an animal equal to the game he killed, according to the judgment of two just men among you, as a sacrifice brought to the Ka'bah, or to make expiation by feeding the poor, or by fasting, equal to the food expended, so that he may feel the evil of his deed. Allah has forgiven what is past. And whoever does it again, Allah will punish him. And Allah is Mighty, having (the power to) torment."
7. Surah Al-Ma'idah verse 97
Meaning: "Allah has made the Ka'bah a sacred house where people gather. This is so that you may know that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth, and that Allah is the Knower of all things."
