The Holy Land, is the nickname given by Muslims to the cities of Mecca and Medina. Being cities that have various Islamic histories, the cities of Mecca and Medina are also very crowded with Muslims from various other countries to perform Hajj and Umrah.
Made as a gathering place for Muslims to perform Hajj and Umrah by Allah SWT, the city of Mecca is also made as the best city, one of which is by being used as the Kaaba.
But apart from the privileges and virtues, is there anything else that makes the cities of Mecca and Medina dubbed as the Holy Land? Here is the explanation.
The cities of Mecca and Medina are only about 450 kilometers apart. However, both cities have very special virtues. To the point that Allah SWT protects Mecca from outside attacks even Dajjal.
As stated by the Prophet SAW, namely:
"Verily, Allah Almighty protected Makkah from the attack of elephants, and He made His Messenger and the believers rule over it" (HR Bukhari).
"There is no land in which the Dajjal will tread except Makkah and Madinah. There is not a single passageway leading to these cities, unless there are Angels lined up, guarding the city." (HR Bukhari)
The city of Medina itself is a Holy Land because there is a historic center of power of Islamic history. This has also been said by the Prophet SAW
"Madinah is forbidden from this to this, its trees are not to be cut down, and no innovation is to be done in it. Whoever innovates (or protects those who innovate) in it is subject to the curse of Allah, the angels and all people."
The city of Mecca is also nicknamed by Allah SWT as Ummul Qura or the Mother of other cities. There are several reasons why Allah SWT dubbed this city as a holy city, including:
1. There is a Kaaba which is the Qibla for Muslims to worship
In Surah Al-Imran: 96 Allah says:
"Verily, the first house built for mankind is the temple of Allah in Bakkah (Mecca), which is blessed and a guide for all mankind."
The Kaaba is the house of Allah (baitullah) which was first established on earth. The Kaaba, which is located at the Grand Mosque, must be kept sacred from things that are forbidden by our Lord Allah SWT.
2. The existence of the Grand Mosque
This mosque is one of the reasons why Mecca is used as the Holy Land. This is because the mosque building that surrounds the Kaaba is the first place of worship for Muslims on earth.
Another privilege that should not be missed is that the Grand Mosque has the virtue of 100 thousand times more than other mosques. As the Prophet Muhammad said:
"One prayer in the Grand Mosque is better than a hundred thousand prayers in other mosques, and one prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis is better than a thousand prayers elsewhere." (Al-Fakihy)
3. Birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad
This holy city witnessed the birth of the last prophet, the Prophet Muhammad. Many historical events also took place in this city such as the appointment of the Prophet Muhammad who was visited directly by the Angel Gabriel in the Cave of Hira.
The city of Mecca also witnessed how the Prophet spread his preaching for 13 years.
4. Place of Hajj
Hajj is one of the fifth pillars of Islam. Muslims who have good financial and physical capabilities will certainly perform this worship to complete their Islamic rulings.
The city of Mecca is made by Allah SWT to carry out a series of pilgrimages for its people who are in various parts of the world.
That is the reason why the cities of Mecca and Medina are nicknamed the Holy Land. Apart from being a place of worship, there truFriends can also visit various tourist areas and culinary explorations.
